Advent: The Beginning of the Gospel

Advent comes from the Latin word adventus that means "arrival," and is  a time when the church has historically taken the four Sundays before Christmas to remember and rediscover the beauty of God becoming a baby in the person of Jesus Christ. Even for a secular culture, the Christmas season is often a time of great joy and celebration where we surround ourselves with friends, family, and festivities. However, the good news of Advent is that we have the opportunity to pause to understand not just why this time of the year should lead to great rejoicing, but also how the good news of God becoming man at Christmas can practically shape our lives year round.
